Ol’ black Bascom, don’t break no mirrors Cold black water dog, make no tears You say you love me with what may be love Don’t you remember makin’ baby love? Got your steam drill built and you’re lookin’ for some kid To get it to work for you like your nine-pound hammer did But I know that you know that I know that you show Something is tearing up your mind Tell me, momma Tell me, momma Tell me, momma, what is it? What’s wrong with you this time? Hey, John, come and get me some candy goods Shucks, it sure feels like it’s in the woods Spend some time on your January trips You got tombstone moose up and your grave-yard whips If you’re anxious to find out when your friendship’s gonna end Come on, baby, I’m your friend! And I know that you know that I know that you show Something is tearing up your mind Tell me, momma Tell me, momma Tell me, momma, what is it? What’s wrong with you this time? Ohh, we bone the editor, can’t get read But his painted sled, instead it’s a bed Yes, I see you on your window ledge But I can’t tell just how far away you are from the edge And, anyway, you’re just gonna make people jump and roar Watcha wanna go and do that for? For I know that you know that I know that you know Something is tearing up your mind Ah, tell me, momma Tell me, momma Tell me, momma, what is it? What’s wrong with you this time?

You angel you You got me under your wing The way you walk and the way you talk I feel I could almost sing You angel you You’re as fine as anything’s fine The way you walk and the way you talk It sure plays on my mind You know I can’t sleep at night for trying Never did feel this way before I get up at night and walk the floor If this is love then gimme more And more and more and more and more You angel you You’re as fine as can be The way you smile like a sweet baby child It just falls all over me You know I can’t sleep at night for trying Never did feel this way before Never did get up and walk the floor If this is love then gimme more And more and more and more You angel you You got me under your wing The way you walk and the way you talk It says everything

It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe It don’t matter, anyhow An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you don’t know by now When your rooster crows at the break of dawn Look out your window and I’ll be gone You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on Don’t think twice, it’s all right It ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe That light I never knowed An’ it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe I’m on the dark side of the road Still I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talkin’ anyway So don’t think twice, it’s all right It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal Like you never did before It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal I can’t hear you anymore I’m a-thinkin’ and a-wond’rin’ all the way down the road I once loved a woman, a child I’m told I give her my heart but she wanted my soul But don’t think twice, it’s all right I’m walkin’ down that long, lonesome road, babe Where I’m bound, I can’t tell But goodbye’s too good a word, gal So I’ll just say fare thee well I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don’t mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don’t think twice, it’s all right

Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks You that never done nothin’ But build to destroy You play with my world Like it’s your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people’s blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud You’ve thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain’t worth the blood That runs in your veins How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I’m young You might say I’m unlearned But there’s one thing I know Though I’m younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul And I hope that you die And your death’ll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I’ll watch while you’re lowered Down to your deathbed And I’ll stand o’er your grave ’Til I’m sure that you’re dead

about

2011 was a special year for songwriting legend Bob Dylan. It not only marked the year of his 70th birthday but it was also the 50 year anniversary of his first
recording. Being a huge fan of his work, and a singer/songwriter myself, I was really inspired to put together and produce a tribute compilation featuring Philadelphia Artists. In 2009 I met a group of engineers from Racetrack Studios out of Gettysburg PA that had just opened a new facility in the old Indre studio space in South Philadelphia, and in 2010 I decided to partner up with them and record it there.

My introduction to Bob Dylan's music began about 10 years ago. I'm a rocker at heart and I grew up influenced by primarily rock music. I never cared much for folk or similar styles that much, so I bypassed them...until I hit the age of 30. A former friend of mine turned me onto Bob Dylan when I was going through a tough time in my life and when his words got through to me it was like I "saw the light". It felt like Bob was singing to me and giving me advice that directly pertained to exactly what I was going through. It was really powerful and I will never forget it. Many have critiqued Bob Dylan (including myself in the past at times) for his style of singing or his actual voice, but I believe he transcends what a perfect singer should sound like. He doesn't follow recipes or formulas for his music nor will you hear him spoon feeding you the obvious "big pop chorus". What I feel Bob Dylan teaches us is to HAVE something to say, to BELIEVE in what you're saying, and then, in his brilliant way, DELIVER IT WITH UNDENIABLE CONVICTION.

This project, like many before it, has been challenging from the start. First off, it is very challenging to cover Bob Dylan...I mean, he's a genius, and the delivery and intent behind each one of his songs is so real that it is incredibly difficult to try and re-interpret any of it. I respect each and every artist on this album for doing so with such talent and grace. Tracking each artist and working within so many different genres on a compilation CD was more rewarding then I could have ever imagined. Cheers to all involved - I hope you all enjoyed working on this album as much as I did. And cheers to Mr. Bob Dylan!... I hope you had a fantastic year and have many more to come!
